Become captain

  • The category A driving license is your ticket to gliding across the water in a motorboat and discovering the lake in all its dimensions and freedom.
  • We teach you all the skills you need to safely operate a motorboat with a propulsion power of more than 6 kilowatts or 8 hp on inland waterways and successfully pass the required test.

Your driving instructor

Scott has a great enthusiasm for boats. Having previously lived on a houseboat himself, organized surf trips on a boat in the Maldives or simply practiced a lot on Lake Zurich with sailing boats or sports boats, wakeboarding and wakesurfing, he is happy to teach you motor boating and everything that goes with it.

Scott works for us as a self-employed driving instructor. It is settled directly with him (payments, invoices, receipts).

The boat

We train on a Yamarin 63 DC with a 150 hp outboard engine. The day cruiser is characterized by a modern design, a functional open area and first-class handling characteristics.

  • The electric gearshift (drive-by-wire) enables very smooth gear changes
  • The smart display combines all instruments, charts and functions in a single clear and user-friendly touchscreen
  • Our boat is equipped with a convertible top and a powerful heater so that you can take driving lessons in comfort whatever the weather.

4 steps to becoming a captain

01 Registration for theory test

You can register for a test appointment at the Road Traffic Office.

02 Taking the theory test

Pass the exam with a maximum of 3 mistakes in 60 multiple choice questions.

03 20-40 driving hours

Your learner’s license is valid for 24 months. During this time, we recommend that you take 20-40 driving lessons.

04 Practical examination

Your driving instructor will register you for the test as soon as you are ready. If you pass your test, you will finally become a captain.

The location

Our driving school boat is stationed directly on the waterfront next to the Enge boat rental at Mythenquai 25 in Zurich. The Hafen Enge Beiz restaurant and the Hafendamm Enge parking lot are in the immediate vicinity. You can reach us by public transport via the Rentenanstalt streetcar stop or Enge train station.
